How to become visible on Google: 7 steps that work
There is no magic button for the top spot – but there are steps that move you up in the search results, in the order you should do them.
1. Get your Google Business Profile in order
For local searches like "hairdresser Bergen" or "car service Drammen", Google Business Profile is often more important than the website itself. Add opening hours, services, photos and the area you serve – and verify your business.
2. Write titles people actually search for
The page title (the blue result in Google) is the strongest signal you send. "Home" says nothing. "Online store for gothic apparel – GothStore AS" says everything. Use the words your customers use – not industry jargon.
3. Make the website lightning fast
Google measures speed. Images weighing 8 MB drag down both rankings and patience. Compress images, avoid heavy scripts and throw out unnecessary widgets. (FiksNett websites are delivered compressed and clean from the start.)
4. Be properly mobile-friendly
Google ranks your website based on the mobile version. Large buttons, readable text and menus that work with a thumb – that is the baseline, not the bonus.
5. Tell Google what the page is about (structured data)
With structured data (schema.org) you can mark up prices, packages, FAQs and business info so Google understands it machine-readably. That can give you rich results with prices and stars in the search results.
6. Build content over time
One page per service beats one big "everything" page. A business with dedicated pages for each service plus a couple of helpful blog posts ranks for far more searches than a competitor with three lopsided pages.
7. Collect reviews
Google loves proof that you are good. Ask happy customers for a review on Google Business Profile – it lifts both rankings and clicks.
